IAR Homepage

Irish Archives Resource has a new look with lots more ways to find collections and to explore the amazing collections in Archives Services in Ireland, north and south. Explore All Archives by subject and find some unexpected collections in unexpected places.

IAR Explore All Archives

There is also a new search engine that still has a Simple and Advanced option to help you find a collection. However, as with any change it might take some getting used to and sometimes there are things that you liked on the old system that are missing from the new but we think overall you will find that when you take some time to explore the new look website you will find lots more ways to explore our collections.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Ben Hazard who will be working with us to help contributors by uploading collection level descriptions and working on blog posts to highlight some of the fabulous collections on IAR. If you would like to add a new collection or have a blog post written about your collection or an event in your Archives Service we would love to help. Contact us at irisharchivesresourcecommittee@gmail.com

We also have a new feature Document in Focus in our educational resources that will provide additional context and guidance on how to get the most out of a document as a researcher. This is a new resource aimed at providing teachers and students with access to archives as primary sources. Guidance will be provided on how to read the writing on some documents or on where a document fits in the wider context of historical events. This is a great way for Archives Services to make their resources more readily available in the classroom. We know our archives are a brilliant resource and we want to share them!

IAR Document in Focus

We would love if you could take some time to explore the new website and let us know what you think. We are always looking for ways to improve! If you have lost your login as a Contributor or are having any issues with your collections then contact us at irisharchivesresourcecommittee@gmail.com to get sorted.

Our website and social media will be a lot more lively in the coming months as we share blogs and collections that we have been working on in the background for the last few months. So, keep an eye on the website and don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and on Facebook
