    Kilmallock Poor Law Union was formally declared in 1839. Its operation was overseen by an elected Board of Guardians, 28 in number, representing its 21 electoral divisions; Co. Limerick: Ardpatrick, Ballinlanders, Ballinlough, Ballinvana, Ballyshoneboy, Bruff, Bruree, Cahercorney, Dromin, Glenroe, Glinbrohane, Gallbally, Hospital, Kilfinnan, Kilflyn, Kilmallock, Knockaney, Knocklong, Manisteranenagh,Tankardstown, Uregare. On 16th February 1840, the Charleville County Cork electoral division was added to the Union. Donated via Cork County Library 1974 by Mainchín Seoige, Limerick County Council.

    1. 12 May 1842
    Rate Book for Kilmallock Poor Law Union, Charleville Electoral Division, County Cork. Lists 1157 rated properties. Gives rate number, name of occupier, owner, description of property rated, name or situation of property, estimated extent in acres, roods and perches (entered for rural properties only), net annual value, landlords rates, tenants rates, tenants repairs and insurance, gross annual value, rate at 10d. in the pound, arrears due. Properties are located in Charleville town, and in the various townlands within the Charleville electoral division. Such as; No. 9,occupier William Toohy, owner Daniel Clanchy Esq., description house and concerns, name or situation Charleville Main Street, west side, net annual value £6.10s, landlord rate £2.11s,tenant rate £2.6s, tenants repairs and insurance £1, gross annual value £7.15s.5d, rate 5s.5d. Sub totals are also given for each townland or street such as Brohill, £569.3s.0d. First number of pages list locations and total for each location and total amount of rate to be collected (£688.3s.7d). With signed declaration of Guardians John O’Donnell, James Barry and Daniel Clanchy. (c.80ff)

    Rate Book for Kilmallock Poor Law Union, Charleville Electoral Division, County Cork. Lists 1086 rateable properties. Gives rate number, name or situation of property, description, estimated extent, net annual value, occupier, immediate lessor, rate at 2s.1d or 35d in the pound, arrears, total. Such as, 1063 Cooline, house, land and forge, extent 12a 0r 24p, net value £15.15s., occupier John Keane, immediate lessor John Baily, rate of over £2.5s.11d.With index listing totals for each location and overall total of over £2383.5s. With signed form indicating that the rate was adopted by the board of guardians.

    Kilmallock Poor Law Union, list of tenants who applied for seed for persons hiring land in electoral division of Ardskeagh, near Charleville. Lists townland, name of labourer (36 listed), quantity of potatoes, signature of tenant. Such as Ballyhea, labourer John Donegan, 30 stone of potatoes, tenant Michael J. Riordan. Labourers each recieve 30 stone of potatoes (except for 3 who get 16 stone). (2pp)

    Form, [Kilmallock Poor Law Union], electoral division of Ardskeagh near Charleville, listing occupier Timothy Fenton of Ballyhea townland to receive 60[pounds] of potatoes. (1p)
