    Established February 1894 for the 'cultivation of Shakespearian literature and the study of dramatic writing'. Meetings were held at Crawford Municipal School. First Chairperson was Henry A. Dixon MA, Committee/ Council included PJ O'Connor, Dr. Allsom, JA Cunningham, James Crosbie, RJ Murphy, Miss Tuckey, Miss Elize Murphy, Miss Gilpin, Miss Mary Ahearne, RF O'Connor, Henrietta Evans. Professors of literature at Queen's College (now UCC) were honorary members. Subscription was 5 shillings. Meetings involved readings from plays and discussions. Lectures were also given by FR Benson (famous actor), Professors Savage, Armstrong, WF Butler, CH Keane, Dowden, Knight.

    Minute book of Cork Shakespearian Society 1894-1901. With minutes of meetings including inaugural meeting on 17 February 1894, and with news-cuttings detailing activities and lectures of Society. Also includes a note by Henrietta Evans, first Honorary Secretary, describing how the minute book was rediscovered in 1939, and also listing all members of the Society, with addresses (July 1941). Also includes TSS. enclosure with account taken from Cork Examiner concerning handover of minute book (12 August 1941).
