Dowdall Bros. set up mid/late 1800s in Charleville Co. Cork. Merger with O'Mahony in the ?early 1900s, with factory at 6-8 Union Quay, Cork. Products included Black Swan butter, Sunrose Margarine, Confecto pastry margarine, Champion cake margarine, Bakers Pride golden shortening, Frytex. Also made soap up to 1960 including Whiteline soap and Wizard carbolic soap used in institutions and laundries. Up to 50 people were employed in the 1960s. Sold to Kraft Foods in 1969. Factory closed in 1989. Premises bought by Guinness Ireland.
