Cricket seems to have been played in Trinity College since about 1820, but the University club was probably not formed until 1842. On 19th February of that year the Board gave permission for the preparation of a piece of ground to be used as a cricket ground.

Records of the DU Cricket Club, largely comprising: minute books (1863-1931, incomplete); score books (1845-2008, incomplete); notebooks of details of matches (1857-1941, incomplete); notebook of teams, officers, fixtures (1840-1937); notebook with alphabetical list of members (1840-1927) and matches and fixtures (1933-1935) including details of DU Football Club’s 2nd and 3rd XV matches (1911-1920). The collection also includes photographs of teams (1855-1859); team selection book (1919-1943) together with additional miscellaneous printed materials such as occasional handbooks and newspaper cuttings.
