Éamon de Valera (14 October 1882 – 29 August 1975) was a prominent statesman and political leader in 20th-century Ireland. He served several terms as head of government and head of state, and had a leading role in introducing the Constitution of Ireland. -
Archival History ↴
This item was previously in the possession of Micheál Cranitch (1912-1999) of Rathduff, Co. Cork. He was a National School Teacher, member of the Seanad and served as Cathaoirleach from January to June 1973. He also was a sportsman, musician and had a keen interest in the Irish language. This item was donated to UCC Library in 2016 by Peadar Cranitch (son of Micheál Cranitch). -

This collection is a B&W photograph of the official visit by the Taoiseach, Mr. Éamon de Valera, to Kilronan pier, Inishmore, Co. Galway, in 1947. The photograph shows a group of about thirty people posing for a photograph on the Pier. In the front row are, from left to right, Mr. Seamus Mac Ugo (Seamus MacHugo, Assistant Private Secretary to Éamon De Valera), Éamon de Valera, Micheál Ó Goill of Cill Rónáin (Kilronan), and five boys wearing Aran jumpers and long tweed pants. Second row, left to right, [Rúaidrí de Valera] and Sean Brennan (Aide-de-Camp).
