  • Administrative History ↴

Fermoy Urban District Council was created in 1899, as a successor body to Fermoy Town Commissioners. It became Fermoy Town Council in 2001 under the Local Government Act of that year. The Town Council has had responsibilities in respect of housing, water and sanitary services, roads maintenance, and some planning functions. In the past it has performed public health functions in connection with the Boards of Health and Public Assistance. It is closely associated with Cork County Council. The Town Council itself is an elected body. It employs a number of officers and staff, including the Town Manager (who exercises some executive powers), the Town Clerk, and the Water Curator.
