Context

Creator(s): Galway County Council, County Secretary's Office

  • Administrative History ↴

The defunct British imperial parliament by an Order in the Council dated 30th January 1899 transferred a number of piers to Galway County Council. (see for instance The Vastons Local Government book no.1) Therefore piers and slipways are assumed to be the property of GCC until the contary is shown. Galway County Council does not provide facilities such as piers for fisheries. But may take over & maintain piers where they are constructed to a satisfactory standard by the Office of Public Works & Roinn na Gaeltachta. The County Sectary's office (General Purpose) looked after this series initially. It is currently administered by Roads / Engineering section.
