Hilda Buckley was born in the 1930s. Her grandfather was from England and worked as a linotype operator (typesetting) in The Cork Constitution newspaper. Hilda worked in the Cork Steam Packet Company (known as B&I Line) as a secretary and she lived at Southern Road, Cork. She was involved in the beginnings of ballet in Cork, including the Cork Ballet Group (from 1947-1953) and the Cork Ballet Company (from 1954). She performed as a dancer in several productions, including roles alongside Joan Denise Moriarty. Died 22 October 2006.

The collection is a valuable source of information about the history of ballet in Cork and Ireland, and in particular about Joan Denise Moriarty, teacher, founder and leading member of the Cork Ballet Company.
