Bishop John Leslie, "The Fighting Bishop", arrived in Donegal in the 1600s and, by 1665, had purchased land at Glaslough in County Monaghan with a £2000 reward given by King Charles II. The estate has remained in family hands to the present day. Notable members of the family include Desmond, a spitfire pilot, Sir Shane, 3rd Baronet, an Irish speaker, author, poet and ardent nationalist who became a Catholic and Sir John, 2nd Baronet, who married Leonie Jerome, sister-in-law of Lord Randolph Churchill.

The estate and family papers of the Leslie family of Co. Monaghan, c. 1619-1992. Includes deeds, leases, rentals, legal papers, estate correspondence, documents from the Land Commission and from Sir John Leslie Estates Company, maps and various bills and receipts relating to the Leslie estates of Glaslough, Pettigo and others. Also includes the Leslie family papers including correspondence, diaries, writings, photographs, scrapbooks, sketchbooks and ephermera, and miscellaneous documentation kept by the Leslie family.
