Ena Brooks was born on 27 August 1921 in Dublin. Her sports career began as a hockey player at the Alexandra College Dublin and Dublin University. Later, she became a successful female golf player. She as a member of Rathfarnham Golf Club (from 1938-1963) and the County Louth Golf Club, c. 1952-1964, and won a number of international caps. Ena Brooks was the Lady Captain (1950 – at the age of just 29) and later honorary member (from 1999) of Rathfarnham Golf club. During her career, she won several national and international competitions including the Leinster open championship in 1954, 1959 and 1962. In her professional career, she was a practicing dentist, graduating from Trinity college Dublin in 1947. Ena Brooks died in January, 2013 -

The collection relates to the golf career of Harriet Celenia ‘Ena’ Brooks, including photographs, papers relating to various golf clubs she was involved with and material such as score cards or fixture lists. It contains letters Ena Brooks received from various individuals within the golfing community (like Violet P. Haslestt, Secretary of Irish Ladies Golf Union, George C. Clarke, Secretary of Rathfarnham Golf Club, John Worstick, Hon. Secretary of Rathfarnham Artisans).
It also includes a large collection of press cuttings, covering all issues related to the golf sport as well as non-golf related subjects. (E.g. golf comics, golf tips, golf results, reports about championships or aspects of gardening or dentistry)
The collection would be useful to researchers interested in women in sport, golf history, and in particular in the Rathfarnham Golf Club in the twentieth century.
