    Éamonn Ceannt was born in County Galway in 1881. He was a founder member of the Irish Volunteers and was a signatory to the Proclamation of Independence. He commanded the 4th Battalion of the Irish Volunteers at South Dublin Union during Easter Week. He was executed in Kilmainham Gaol on 8 May 1916. Áine Ceannt (née O’Brennan) was born in Dublin and married Éamonn Ceannt in 1905. A member of Cumann na mBan, Áine was also active during the Rising. Dedicated to the Republican cause, she worked for the Volunteer Dependent’s Fund and supported the Anti-Treaty side in the Irish Civil War. She was also active in the Irish White Cross. She died in 1954. The couple had a son, Ronan, who qualified as a solicitor.

    Áine Ceannt’s papers include letters from Fathers Albert and Augustine, Eamonn and Sinéad De Valera, Alice Milligan, Alice Stopford Green, Peadar O’Donnell, Margaret Pearse, Jack B. Yeats. Also, papers re Cumann na mBan, Irish White Cross, Irish Red Cross.

    Kathleen O’Brennan papers include letters from Marie Equi, Joseph Holloway, Alice Milligan, May Morton, Lennox Robinson, Maurice Walsh, Jack B. Yeats, Elizabeth Yeats. Also includes material re political activity in United States, 1916-1922, and drafts of literary works.

    Lily O’Brennan papers include Erskine and Molly Childers, Muriel MacDonagh, Dorothy MacArdle, Alice Stopford Green, Alice Milligan, Dora Sigerson Shorter, Jack B. Yeats. Also, papers re Cumann na mBan and account of her involvement in 1916 Rising. Drafts of historical and literary works, including The Call to Arms published in 1929 with the pseudonym Esther Graham.

    Includes card signed by the Irish delegation of plenipotentiaries, 20 Oct. 1921.
