    Papers of Senator James Green Douglas. Includes Douglas’ retained drafts and copies of his own letters which reflect his political activities as a senator in the Irish Free State, including his position on the Constitutional Committee and Postal Commission. Many letters relate to his involvement with the Irish White Cross and the distribution of funds from the American Committee for Relief in Ireland. Correspondents include Michael Collins, Hugh Kennedy, W.T. Cosgrave, Baron Glenavy, Ernest Blythe, George Russell, the Archbishop of Cashel, Eamon De Valera, Arnold Marsh, Edith Ellis, Sir Howard d’Egville, Kevin O’Higgins, W.B. Yeats, Maud Gonne McBride, Mrs. Erskine Childers, Alice Stopford Green, Hugh Martin James Dillon, Constance Markievich, Fridtjof Nansen, Alfred Zimmern and many other political and religious figures and commentators including Horace Plunkett, Bryan Cooper, Lennox Robinson, the Archbishop of Tuam, the Bishop of Thurles and Frank Cruise O’Brien. The papers also contain various manuscripts, typescripts, memoranda, reports, lists and leaflets including a substantial amount of material relating to the Irish White Cross and the American Committee for Relief in Ireland. There are also typescript copies of Douglas’ autobiography as well as miscellaneous personal and family papers.
