The collection of photographs was created by Dawson Shard and is made up of the Shard family photographs, taken in the South County Dublin/County Wicklow area at the turn of the twentieth century.
It is known, from his father's will of 1902, that Dawson Shard was one of five, his siblings being Charles, William Isaac, Sophie Aufere and Henrietta. Dawson Shard was the son of Charles Shard of 6 Connaught Street, Hyde Park, the grandson of Charles Shard of Hedgerley Park, Buckinghamshire and the great-grandson of the William Dawson of Manchester Square and of Settle, Yorkshire.
It is known from his gravestone that he died at Kingstown, Co. Dublin (now known as Dún Laoghaire).

This collection of 506 photographs of the Shard family was taken in the South County Dublin/County Wicklow area at the turn of the twentieth century. Family members can be seen formally posing for photographs and participating in leisure pursuits such as yachting, shooting and tennis matches. The identifiable locations include Clarinda Park and de Vesci Terrace in Dún Laoghaire (or Kingstown as it was then known) and Dalkey in County Dublin.

Access Conditions
All of the images in the Shard Collection are fully catalogued and available to view via the online catalogue with the RTÉ watermark. Unwatermarked images, whether high or low resolution, are only issued via Stills Library staff.
Conditions Governing Reproduction
Images can be reproduced with permission only and according to rate card published on RTÉ Stills Library Online. An online ordering system exists.
