The records in this collection are concerned with the running of St Peter’s National School, Drogheda. The school was established in the early 19th century. Originally established in the grounds of St Peter’s Church of Ireland at the top of Peter Street, it then moved to Bolton Street in 1896 where it is based today. It is often referred to as the ‘Blue School’.

The collection was held in the school until June 2006, when it was deposited in Louth County Archives Service. The series of annual reports and statements of accounts of the Blue School for 1942 –1950 were purchased by the County Archives in 2006.

Scope & Content: St Peter’s (Church of Ireland) National School, Drogheda ↴
The collection consists essentially of roll books (SCH006/RB1/, SCH006/RB2/, and SCH006/RB3/), and daily report books (SCH006/REP1/) dating from the 1890s – 1980s. It contains one observation book dating from 1908 – 1936 (SCH006/003); and a series of annual reports and statements of accounts of the Blue School for 1942 – 1950. There is a file containing various items such as inspector’s reports, circulars from the Office of Education, and lists of pupils’ names, (SCH006/001). There is also a book of rough calculations of quarterly returns dating to 1917-21 (SCH006/002). Much of the material in the collection relating to individuals is subject to restricted access until the date of the last substantive entry in the item in question is 100 years old. This is to protect the privacy of individuals. Researchers may view entries relating to them upon proof of identity.
